Two-day guided hiking tour through Žumberak and Gorjanci
Two countries. One adventure.
Tour dates 2026:
7–8 November 2026
Two-day guided hiking tour for €149 per person.
Croatia → Slovenia → Croatia
How about two days of forest trails, waterfalls and wide meadows — with an overnight stay in a mountain hut and a climb to a summit that connects two countries?
Join the Sraka Horizont team on a circular hiking adventure starting in Sošice, taking us through Žumberak into Slovenia’s Gorjanci Hills and back to the Croatian side. Along the way, we will discover Sopot Waterfall, stop at mountain huts, learn the story of Gospodična Spring and climb Sveta Gera, also known as Trdinov vrh.
Two active days await, with varied scenery and time for conversations that flow naturally as we walk.
Day 1: From Sošice and Sopot Waterfall to Slovenia’s Gorjanci Hills
Approximately 16–18 km and 5–6 hours of walking, plus time for breaks
We meet in Sošice, at the car park by the visitor centre, where we set off towards one of Žumberak’s most beautiful sights — Sopot Waterfall.
Here, the water tumbles over rocks in three cascades, surrounded by forest. It is a lovely place to pause, listen to the waterfall and take a few photographs.
After the waterfall, a steeper climb takes us towards Vodice Mountain Hut. We will take a longer break in the forest clearing beside the hut and enjoy the food we have brought before continuing towards Pliješ.
We continue through beech forests towards the border ridge and cross into Slovenia. The trail then leads through the Gorjanci Hills, with occasional views towards Dolenjska and Žumberak, until we reach our overnight accommodation.
We spend the night at Dom pri Miklavžu mountain hut. In the evening, we put down our backpacks, rest our legs, and enjoy good company after a day of hiking.
Day 2: Gospodična Spring, Sveta Gera and a return along historic trails
Approximately 3–4 hours of walking, plus time for breaks
In the morning, we will visit nearby Gospodična Spring. A legend recorded by Janez Trdina tells that its water restores youth. We cannot promise it will make us younger — but a break beside the spring will certainly be welcome!
Next comes the day’s most demanding climb, towards Sveta Gera / Trdinov vrh, at 1,178 metres. At the highest point of Žumberak and Gorjanci, the Croatian and Slovenian sides of the same mountain range meet. Alongside the distinctive tower, we will also see the remains of the churches of St Gera and St Elijah.
We continue across Žumberak’s hay meadows, open mountain grasslands that offer a different perspective on the landscape after the forest sections.
For our return, we follow the Stara laška Trail, a historic route connecting people and settlements on both sides of the border. Through forest, past pastures and hamlets, we descend towards Sošice, where our two-day circular adventure ends.
Two days of nature, good company and trails that connect.
